How to Gain Participation in Training Sessions

Universal Methods for gaining participation

Active Audience participation in training sessions is very important for a successful training.

The categories of audiences that form the part of training differ according to their various aspects and requirements. Meeting their needs of training and working on the weaker areas of their development is the most essential part of the training. To meet the needs of all categories of audience, use of universal methods of training to gain active participation is essential.

Key universal methods for active participation-

Interaction with the audience is the best and the most effective way to present an impactful training used universally for all types and categories of audiences. There are several types of interaction techniques which play effective roles in acting as universal methods to engage the participants. Some of these are as below:

Story telling or group discussions- Stories make great impact on the audience and are effective with every category of audience. Inspirational stories are always an inspiration for the audience even if they are of the teenage group, adults or more matured audiences. Group discussions on the other hand require planning and distribution of topics according to the category of audiences and their suitability.

Interactive tasks/Mind games- Mind games are common and represent every age group of the audience they are basically used to develop the memory of the audience and create interaction between them thereby reducing their fear and allowing them to open up more and more.

Reward and recognition- Appreciation is desired by everyone be it an amateur participant a matured or an intermediate. People love to get rewarded and recognized in the group.  Applause by the audience for a single person is very rewarding for them. Recognizing them for their good work engages them to get more and more into the training. This also creates a competitive atmosphere and engages rest of the audience to be more interactive and gain recognition.

Conclusion: Engaging audiences is not difficult but the training content and the way of representation should meet their demands and even if the presentation was not great the interaction part engages them very well and delivers them with their expectations.

How to Use Stories in a Training

Use of stories in a training is very effective and leaves a great impact on the audience. Stories provide a different feel to the training in a very successful way. Narration of stories just like examples gives great imagination to training. Stories should always be in conjunction to the training scenario and should relate with the minds of the audience.

Story telling – An Art

Story telling is actually an art in itself, choosing the right story delivering it to the audience and creating an impact is the objective and requires practice and experience. There are different kinds of stories and their selection should be according to the suitability with the audience and the type of training conducted. Stories generally help in creating Humour, Motivation and Inspiration and story delivery should be in a way that it connects the audience and makes them feel in the same position as the character of the story. This makes a great impact and helps in the success of training.

Important points to deliver an impactful story

While delivering a story the most important part is to feel what you deliver. The story must be impactful enough that it first touches your mind and heart and creates unforgettable impression on your mind. Now the same impressions have to be delivered on the audience for which the body language of the trainer and delivery is very important.

Timing is another important factor, when and where including a story would be apt for training is the key. Length of the story should also be considered. If a story is too lengthy it creates a bad tempo which makes less interesting for the audience.

Story telling  if correctly done directly connects the audience with the story of the character which ultimately motivates them and makes the audience think how they would place themselves in the place of character and this creates a lasting impression on their mind.

Etiquettes in Places of Worship

Holy places are sacred ones and they occupy very special place in our hearts. Sometimes we might find ourselves in a religious place that is not our own and also if it is our own, still one needs to adhere to some etiquettes.

Some very general Etiquettes in Places of Worship are:

  • Be respectful of the beliefs that people have. One must not contradict anything that is believed by people and also anything followed by them. Submissive attitude is of absolute necessity.
  • One should maintain absolute silence during and also after the services. Cell phones are to be on silent mode. Calls should be answered only if there is an emergency.
  • In respective of you visiting a church, mosque, temple etc. one must dress conservatively. There are chances of people adhering to some dress code and in some cases it is an unspoken rule that should simply be followed as an act of courtesy. If you are planning to visit any holy place as traditional as you can. Your attire should be very ethnic and should not make you look alienated from the crowd.
  • One should avoid taking snaps at much as possible the flash of the camera should be turned off. One must be sure to check that photography is even allowed. In some places, it is strictly prohibited. Try your level best to refrain yourself from taking snaps.

Many ancient temples are also rich in treasure houses. Whether you are visiting a temple as a devotee or as a tourist you should know how to conduct yourself on holy premises.

Below mentioned are a few tips on how to write a story:

1. AT one go

Ensure that the first draft of the story is as short as possible. If one is writing a short story, then one should complete it in one sitting only. If the story is like a Novel, then one should make an effort to complete it in one season that is 3 months. Many people are concerned about the plotting or outlining. This can be done once the story is in place.

2. Creative

Immense creativity and innovation is expected from the writer. One must make sure that the story has enough suspense and drama. To create suspense one needs to set up dramatic questions. One should also have an art to do it.  In order to create the necessary drama and suspense, the flow of information should be restricted to the reader as nothing destroys drama and suspense than over sharing.

3. Good dialogues

Good dialogues come from 2 aspects they are Intimate knowledge of the characters and lots of re- writing. Each character in the story must have a unique voice and to ensure that all the characters sound different, one needs to read the dialogues of the characters.

4. Pro- Editor

The writer needs to be a pro- editor. The editing process should undergo 3 stages: The first draft can be called as a ‘Dummy Draft’. This draft should not be shared with anyone. The second draft is a more serious effort from the reader’s side. This draft is for clarifying the plot and characters. The third draft is meant for deep polishing. In this phase, everything starts to gel.

5. Aware of the rule

Good writers know all the rules and the best writers never break rules arbitrarily. Sometimes, rules are also broken only to ensure the purpose of the story and to take it to the next level. One should respect the rules but at the same time one should not serve the rules, but the stories.

At the end, the writer needs to share the work. Sometimes, the work would be appreciated and sometimes it can also demand re-work. In either cases, it is expected to be taken positively.

English – Official Language

English, a language introduced in our country and in many others, the world over, as a consequence of the British rule, is an international language. Yet, there are some countries that use it as an official language while others have done away with it. We will talk of the language in the Indian context.

The official language of the Republic of India is Hindi.  However, English is an important secondary official language. The various states are permitted to use their own official language. There are some states like Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura which have English as their official state language despite having their own indigenous languages. In India, the use of English has been a controversial subject. It has come to mean westernization, which is strongly opposed to. Some groups even believe that speaking this language is anti- national.

On the other hand, some regional states accept English but oppose Hindi as a National language. English has also been seen widening the class divide- a tool that differentiates between “upper class” and the “lower class”. It yields power. It is also seen that lucrative jobs are lost to the English speaking lot, which causes resentment.

While English cannot establish itself in India as it has in America or Australia, despite their multiculturalism, it has a unique place in the Indian polity. It is used in administration, the legal system, global commerce and scientific research. English studies in India will always be relevant to our society.

In today’s world, a global language is essential to bind the world. English has emerged as this language. The status it has in our country reasonable enough. No more, no less.
